Walking Blickling

Walking Blickling is a collection of basketry pieces made in response to walking and gathering in the grounds and gardens of Blickling Hall in Norfolk.

The work explores connection to place and nature. Growing up a few miles from Blickling, we would spend hours in the gardens and woods at Blickling as children. I’ve been walking the same paths, following past footsteps and reconnecting with the sense of wonder experienced in nature as a child.

Materials such as daffodil, crocosmia and sweet flag leaves are gathered, dried and made into cordage that is woven into textured nest-like forms and wall pieces. Using low-impact processes and only natural materials, each piece will biodegrade at the end of its life. Only a small number of pieces are made with each year’s harvest.

Walking Blickling was shown at Future Icons Selects as part of London Craft Week 11-14 May 2023.
